The older sister, who becomes a mother under heartbreaking circumstances, faces life-altering decisions—from keeping her child to choosing between a familiar struggle in England and an uncertain hope in America. Meanwhile, the younger sister, full of loyalty and quiet strength, gives up her own dreams to care for her niece.
The book gently explores themes of resilience, lost love, and the consequences of choices made in moments of desperation. One moment that stood out was when the younger sister lost her love over a misunderstood kiss, reminding us how small acts can leave deep imprints. I especially appreciated how the story wove in real historical elements, like a visit from Queen Victoria.
The ending is open yet hopeful, as one sister leaves to chase a new beginning, while the other stays behind to raise the child in love.
A beautifully told tale—emotional, thought-provoking, and haunting in its simplicity.
