The work charts his childhood during the turbulent Mau Mau emergency era, his education at Njiri's School and Kenyatta Sixth Form College, his engineering training at the University of Nairobi and the University of Southampton, and his subsequent forty-year career as a consulting engineer working across multiple African nations.
